Catapult Cosmo Score: The Amazon Algorithm Your Content Needs to Win Over

4 Min Read | OCTOBER, 2026 | BY Benjamin Weyrich

Your listing hits every box on the SEO checklist. Full title, maximum bullets, A+ Content live, backend keywords filled in. The score looks perfect, and the sales still aren't matching the effort.

Catapult Portfolio AI can show you why: completing every field is only half the job, and the other half is whether your content actually explains the product. That's where the Catapult Cosmo Score comes in.

Max Out Your Listing Quality Score First, Then Look Deeper for Real Quality

The Listing Quality radar in Catapult scores nine factors from 0 to 100% of target: A+ Content Available, A+ Premium Available, Brand Story Available, Bullet Point Count, Bullet Point Length, Title Length, Description Length, Image Count, and Backend Keywords. It overlays your recommended shape against what's live on the page. A wider shape means a stronger listing, and a spoke where the live page pulls inward marks a gap against what Catapult recommends.

These factors are important checks, but they shouldn’t be treated as a north star. A missing A+ module, a short title, or empty backend keywords caps your visibility no matter how good the writing is. But maxing out the radar says nothing about whether that writing explains the product well. A long description can still say nothing useful, while a short one can say the one thing a shopper cares about, if that space gets used well.

Catapult Cosmo Score: A qualitative score of how well your content explains your product

Cosmo is used by the algorithm behind Amazon's regular search bar, the one every shopper uses. Rufus is Amazon's separate conversational shopping assistant, and dismissing Cosmo because "no one searches through Rufus" mixes up two different tools. Cosmo decides how your product matches a search query by reading your content the way a person would, not by checking whether fields are filled in.

Cosmo Coverage, inside Catapult, grades your content against that reading. Where the radar checks presence, Cosmo Coverage checks clarity: does your copy say what the product is used for, who it's for, and when or where it gets used.

Read Your Catapult Cosmo Score Across 15 Shopping Intent Relations

The Catapult Cosmo Scores evaluates content against 15 shopping-intent relations grouped into four categories: Use Cases, Capabilities, Audience, and Context. Each relation asks a direct question: what the product does, who buys it, what it's capable of, and the setting it fits into.

Picture a golf umbrella up against hundreds of other listings. "Umbrella, durable, large canopy" never tells a golfer whether this one survives wind on the course or fits in a golf bag. "Windproof frame built for golf courses" answers that directly, and Cosmo rewards content that answers it.

Diagnose Gaps with Explicit, Implied, and Hinted Labels and Fix Them Fast

The algorithm we developed can detect nuances in the content and provide you with true insights into how well shoppers as well as the Amazon algorithm understand your product based on the content. The Detail tab breaks each relation into a status (Stated, Hinted, Review, or Missing) and a clarity label (Explicit, Implied, or Hinted), showing how strongly your copy communicates each point instead of handing you one overall grade.

"Windproof frame designed for golf courses" lands as Explicit. "Sturdy construction" only reaches Implied, leaving a golfer searching for golf-specific gear without enough signal. A sharp SEO analyst used to catch this gap by instinct. Now you see it relation by relation.

From Insights to Optimization to Activation

Catapult can not only provide you with true qualitative insights at scale across your catalogue; it can also improve it for you. Our proprietary algorithm goes beyond traditional optimization tools, it does keyword research scored by relevancy, competitor research to understand the true USP of your product, write content in your brand voice, optimizes the way it writes to maximize for COSMO – the way people and the Amazon algorithm understand your product. “Human in the loop” is designed into the process to ensure you are in control. Once the content is approved or edited by you, it gets pushed live to Amazon.

Catapult Portfolio AI helps you drive organic revenue as well as improve your media impact.
